CONJUNCTIVITIS / PINK EYE
Conjunctivitis, also commonly referred to as “pink eye”, results from inflammation of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the eye’s outer layer that helps lubricate the eyeball and usually blocks infection. prevent microbes into the eye. Conjunctivitis is usually often caused by bacterial or viral infections, irritants, or allergic reactions. Bacterial and viral conjunctivitis can quickly and easily spread from one patient person to another.
Symptoms of conjunctivitis (pink eye) include:

- Blurred vision
- Swelling
- Noticeable redness of the white of the eye
- Itchy, burning eyes
- Green or yellow discharge from the eye
- Light to severe crusting and mattering of the eyelids and surrounding skin
Conjunctivitis caused by a bacterial infection is treated with antibiotics. Viral conjunctivitis is usually contracted from the same virus that causes the common cold. This form of pink eye requires a few days to run its course. Makeup and contact lenses should be thrown out, as using such products they could reintroduce sult in the return of the infection. The Eye infections usually begin in only one eye but could as easily spread to the other. Avoid touching or itching the infected area and wash your eyes and hands regularly.
