Ellen C. Fitzgerald Farkas, MD

Dr. Ellen C. Fitzgerald Farkas is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Having grown up in Fredonia, NY, she attended Niagara University where she earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology. Dr. Fitzgerald Farkas then went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Upon completion, she earned a membership into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

After completing an internal medicine  internship year at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Dr. Fitzgerald Farkas pursued ophthalmology training through her residency at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She was selected as Clinical Chief Resident and helped lead and guide her fellow peers  

She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the New York Medical Society.  

Dr. Fitzgerald Farkas’ field of expertise includes cataract surgery using the newest techniques and lens implants, including Bladeless Cataract surgery using the LenSx technology and the use of advanced-technology intraocular lenses for the correction of near and distance vision and astigmatism.  She is a medical doctor (MD) in the field of ophthalmology, an eye physician and surgeon providing comprehensive eye care.  Her focus on vision and helping her patients see better includes the type of care provided through complete eye exams, prescribing glasses, contacts, systemic medications and when indicated surgery.

She treats symptoms of cataract, blurry or blurred vision, glare, dimness or dim vision, foggy or fogged vision, myopia or nearsightedness, hyperopia or farsightedness, astigmatism, refractive error, high intraocular or eye pressure, glaucoma, visual distortion or distorted vision, macular degeneration, eye changes or disease associated with diabetes, diabetic retinopathy, ocular dryness and dry eye syndrome, ocular redness, conjunctivitis, visual field defects and vision or visual loss.

When not treating the above conditions, she resides at home with her husband, three children, two goldendoodle dogs and loves to spend her time cooking in the kitchen.

Dr. Phil Niswander

Philip R. Niswander, MD, FACS

Dr. Philip Niswander, a Buffalo, NY native, has been practicing ophthalmology since 1983. He graduated from the University of California at Davis with honors. Dr. Niswander earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, before returning to Western New York to complete his internship in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital. 

Dr. Niswander is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is Specialty Board Certified in Cataract/Lens Implant Surgery by the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is a member of several local and national societies including the Erie County Medical Society, Buffalo Ophthalmologic Society, New York State Ophthalmology Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness. Dr. Niswander co-founded and served as President of the Ambulatory Surgery Center of WNY, a state of the art center specializing in  laser technology for eye procedures.

 Dr. Niswander is committed to educating tomorrow’s doctors as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Mary Ellen Loughrey, OD, FAAO

Mary Ellen Loughrey, OD, FAAO

A native of Jamestown, NY, Dr. Mary Ellen Loughrey graduated magna cum laude from Niagara University, where she was awarded the Niagara University Distinguished Student Award. She was a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society.

 Dr. Loughrey completed her four-year Doctor of Optometry program at The Ohio State University of Optometry, where she achieved dean’s list status.  While at The Ohio State University, she completed her optometric externship at the United States Naval Academy Eye Clinic in Annapolis, MD.   Dr. Loughrey is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Kevin Weber, Managing Optician, is a licensed Optician and contact lens fitter.  With 30 years of experience helping people find their glasses and contacts that work for the individual.  He prides himself on taking the time that each patient needs to have the fit that is right and that their visual needs are met.
